Heretic Review
Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Heretic is a eerie film that will make you question a lot of things. The film is centred on what happens when two young Mormon missionaries – Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), visit Mr Reed (Hugh Grant), a mysterious English man, during a snowstorm. While the interaction starts with the normal Mormon religious conversation, things quickly spirals into something darker and they are unable to get themselves out of. Will they succeed in making it out of the eerie mansion successfully? What is Mr Reed’s intention? To know the answers one will need to watch Heretic.
What Works
Hugh Grant as the evil Mr Reed is the highlight of Heretic. The gripping storyline will have you invested from the get-go.
What Doesn’t Work
The overload of information is sure to get a little too much to follow, especially the last 30 minutes. The heavy dialogues – especially without subtitles, will distract you from important scenes.
Star Performances
Hugh Grant steals the show as Mr Reed and there is no debating that fact. The actor – who we are used to seeing in romantic flicks, will creep you out while at the same make you question reality and all you have believed in to date.
Talking about the other performers – Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, both actress leave an impact as Mormon sisters on mission.
Conclusion
Do watch the film – especially to see Hugh Grant as the villainous Mr Reed as he will leave you will chills. Even after the end credits roll by, the narrative of Heretic will still play in you mind and have you debating whether or not you would make the same choices as Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton. Hope our Heretic review helps you have a fruitful weekend.
